April Update

From our director, Sue Joyce:
(1 April 2026)
Hello April!
Last weekend, I attended the Vegan Animal Rights Conference in Manchester, where I delivered a presentation, attended a range of lectures, and gained valuable new skills. I also held several exciting meetings with Animal Think Tank, Protect the Wild, and Richard Parr, discussing future collaborations to support pigeons across the UK.
Media interest in our work is clearly growing too!
- On Friday 20th, I was featured in The i Paper, which sparked great engagement and conversation
- On Monday 23rd, I appeared live on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show (My segment starts approximately 51 minutes in.)
- And on Friday 27th, I was interviewed by two freelance journalists about our work and the growing interest in pigeons
I took the Little Green Pigeon fundraising and advocacy stand to five events in March, driving over 1,800 miles. Along the way, I had the pleasure of speaking with members of the public and pigeon rehabbers in Gloucester, Olney, Hereford, Cirencester, and St Ives (Cambridge).
We raised an incredible £1,500 through donations and sales, which is a fantastic achievement, I also spoke to over 400 people about why we need to work.
This month I will be attending 3 markets in Ringwood, Midhurst and Chepstow and then on 25th April I am a speaker (and we have a stand) at Vegfest Free in Birmingham, which should be a fantastic event!
I hope to see some of you there!
Our Current Work
Among our wider work, here are some of the key projects our team is currently undertaking:
Stop councils culling pigeons:
A document to handover to councils in the UK to encourage them to work with us instead of using 'pest control' measures. We also ask them to give us a room in each town for the pigeons where we can ask volunteers to care for the pigeons, medicate and egg sway, leading to smaller, healthier flocks.
Grant applications:
We have applied for several grants to help our work, making us less dependent on fundraising
Asking for a vehicle for street outreach:
We are inviting caravan, motorhome, and horsebox manufacturers across Europe to support our work by sponsoring us with the donation of a vehicle. This would be used as a mobile shop and office to help deliver our advocacy and fundraising activities across the UK.
Working with other advocacy groups:
We are working closely with Protect the Wild, Advocacy for Pigeons, Humane Wildlife Solutions and Manchester Pigeon Rehab, amongst others to raise the profile of our campaigns.
