Exciting things are coming!

Hello lovely pigeon fans,
What an amazing August we have had!
It feels like the year has flown by so far, with not enough time to really take in everything that has been achieved. So yesterday, I took an hour to swim in the sea locally and think about things — to think about what I wanted to say in this month’s email from me.
Firstly — thank you for being here.
As many of you will know, being a pigeon rehabber can be isolating and exhausting. Well, I no longer rehab, but I can tell you that sitting here five days a week at my desk, planning and working, can also feel quite isolating.
And I’ll never forget those long days back when I used to try to fit rehabbing around my job. It’s exhausting.
I want you to know that I understand — the financial pressure, the time pressure, the pressure to take “just one more bird.”
I see you.
And I am doing EVERYTHING I can to improve things here in the UK for both the pigeons AND those of you who care for them.
As you may know, my other two days a week are spent at markets, fayres or festivals, talking to members of the public about pigeons and about our work, fundraising and creating collaborations with other animal charities.
Just like pigeon rehabbers, I am still working seven days a week, every week of the year.
And I want you to know this — not for thanks or martyrdom, but so that you understand that whilst I am no longer “hands-on” with our favourite birds, I am out here fighting for them and for you.
And I will continue to do so until we see systemic change in both public opinion and the framework and laws in this country, to make their world fairer and kinder.
To all our new members and followers here — Croeso! 💚 (Welcome!)
I am delighted you are here.
We are creating a wonderful community — a Pigeon Army, if you will! 🐦
There is so much going on here at the NPAA, including lots of exciting work for our annual conference, the International Pigeon Advocacy Conference, this October…
Just five weeks away!
And you can see more about that below…
But for now —
Thank you again.
I am feeling more confident than ever that things are starting to change for us, and YOU are making that happen.
Feathery love,
Sue 🐦💚

CURRENT WORK
We have BIG plans for the future of pigeon welfare in the UK, and here are just some of the projects we are currently working on:
🏙️ TOWN & CITY PIGEON MANAGEMENT CENTRES
We are developing a framework for every UK council to establish a Town & City Pigeon Management Centre.
The idea is simple: a building in each town where NPAA volunteers can care for pigeons, carry out humane egg-swapping to help reduce populations, and treat injuries and illnesses — including the devastating problem of stringfoot.
We aim to achieve this by asking each council for £500 each month to help provide food, medicines, PPE for volunteers and the equipment needed to run the centre.
In return, councils could see a reduction in pigeon numbers around town centres and food markets, while reducing — and eventually eliminating — the need to spend money on inhumane “pest control”.
And everyone is happier…
including, and most importantly as far as we are concerned, the pigeons. 🐦💚
📦 GRACIE'S BOXES
A box containing everything a carer needs to look after an injured, abandoned or orphaned pigeon for the first 24 hours.
Each box will include essential supplies, medication information and drug datasheets, together with contact details for a local pigeon rehabber.
Our aim is to get a Gracie’s Box into every vet practice, helping to prevent unnecessary euthanasia caused by a lack of knowledge or understanding about pigeons.
We want vets to have the information and resources they need to say:
“Yes, we can help this pigeon.” 🐦
💚 HARPER'S FUND
Our new charity, created to raise funds to help pay veterinary, food and medicine bills for pigeon rehabbers nationwide.
It’s a big ask.
But we really believe we can do it!
No pigeon carer should have to choose between helping a bird and being able to afford the care they need.
Harper’s Fund is about making sure that help is there when it is needed.
🌳 STREET OUTREACH
We want to take pigeon advocacy out onto the streets!
Talking to the public about WHY we need to care about pigeons, gently educating children about why they should never chase, frighten or harm them, and encouraging people to see pigeons differently.
Because sometimes, all it takes is a little understanding to turn:
“Ugh, a pigeon…”
into:
“Look! A pigeon!” 🥰🐦
AND WE HAVE BIG PLANS…
There are currently just 10 people working voluntarily at the NPAA.
Ten people.
Trying to change the way an entire country thinks about pigeons.
It’s a big job — but we are determined, passionate and absolutely committed to making it happen.
Would you like to join our team?
Whether you have lots of time or just a little, whether you have a particular skill or simply a huge love for pigeons, we would love to hear from you.
